Thanks for Dancing is a short film centred around a lifelong relationship is coming to an end, as we follow two elderly men and former athletes the last winter they are living together.
It is early February and close to the freezing point in Hedmark, East Norway. The previous national champion in Combined Skiing, Roland (65), lives with his Swedish coach through all years, Bertil (79), at a isolated and remote farmhouse.
As Roland enters retirement, his partners cancer diagnosis casts a shadow over their warm and established coexistence. Roland’s frustration is not helped by Bertil’s rejection of any life prolonging treatment. Bertil will rather spend his energy enjoying what time he has left.
For the first time in their long relationship, it is Roland who is in charge and must look after his old coach and partner. Together they look back at the life they have shared, while Roland is forced to look forward and reinvent his future and its possibilities.
