About AVA

AVA provides access to a world of European and international cinema from the comfort of your own living room. AVA users can stream a unique selection of arthouse features, world-class documentaries and acclaimed and award-winning short films from a selection of titles not commonly available on other mainstream VOD platforms.

AVA works closely with some of Europe’s most renowned film festivals and distributors to curate a unique viewing experience, focussed on quality content and targeted towards the interests of local library users. AVA began in 2016 as an EU-funded project and is now available in a number of libraries and cultural institutions across Europe. AVA film selections are curated with the help of local film experts in each region, and tailored towards the needs of local demographics.

For the University Library Center of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (hbz) we provide all participating universities with our platform hbz.ava.watch. With the support of our film festival partners and local film experts, we have curated Focus Collections with carefully selected European festival films, collections with regional focus like Latin American, African or German cinematography, and various thematic compilations, for example a selection of films dedicated to the diversity of female characters. Additionally, the carousels on our home page highlight particular areas of interest within the film collection.
