Mountaineer Thomas Lämmle climbed eight-thousanders such as Mount Everest without supplemental oxygen. After a serious paragliding accident in 2020, which he only just survived, he was confined to a wheelchair - with the suspicion that he would never be able to walk again. However, he could not come to terms with this. He began to train hard and set himself a goal: to climb his beloved Kilimanjaro once again. "And if that's only possible with crutches, then so be it," he said at the time.
In September 2021, Thomas Lämmle will climb Africa's highest mountain on crutches. His doctor would later describe this as a minor medical miracle.
